Jumbo tissue saves time, labor, and money because these systems are very large rolls that are changed over 20 times less often than regular tissue rolls. The size of the rolls and their lockable dispensers prevent pilferage. The system is more efficiently than conventional systems and prevents overuse. It takes approximately the same time to change one jumbo roll as to change a regular roll of tissue. The Background Story Behind The Jumbo Tissue Concept:
The jumbo bathroom tissue concept has come a long way. Originally marketed in Sweden in 1947, the first jumbo tissue was very coarse and consequently was used by the public only by necessity. This quality of tissue would not be pilfered partly because of its lack of softness and partly because of its size.
With its introduction into the North American market, the European manufacturers remained stubborn insisting the harsh texture of this tissue was a part of its selling feature. Consequently, the product had a very hard time developing acceptance here; in fact, it almost failed as a result of it. Strong marketing teams and perseverance gained a significant market position in the early eighties. This prompted the paper giant Scott Tissue Products to introduce the JRT system and with it a softer version of jumbo tissue in 1988. European producers were finally forced to adapt and many other North American producers also got involved. Now there was no looking back and the jumbo tissue concept took hold.
Today we estimate that over sixty percent of all business, public, and institutions use it because "it works". |
